Careers
Taking all the right actions to support our people.
Why work for us?
People are the heart of our business. We recognise each and every individual’s value and commitment and we know that the success of our business is only made possible by the drive and enthusiasm of our people.
We respect the right of our teams to grow and progress, both as employees and as individuals. We back this with actions, by providing opportunities and encouragement for our team members to become the best they can be at work, and in their community.
We celebrate our employees and one of the best things about working in our team is the people we work with (our annual engagement survey tells us that every year). We offer a range of benefits and and reward our people for their hard work through a number of schemes, Employee of the Month, Driver of the Month/Year and Long Service milestones to name a few.
As a nationwide business, we have a number of fulfilling roles and we're often looking to expand our teams as we continue to grow. If you're interested in starting a career with us we'd love to hear from you.

Career development
For operatives
We invest heavily in our operatives’ career progression and training. That’s from entry-level to senior Operative roles.
It is rewarding to see so many of our people moving into Senior Operative roles, such as Foreman, Supervisory or Planning roles. Some of our Operatives have moved into Depot Management and Senior Leadership roles due to their career ambitions.
We fund Lantra training courses as well as providing our own internal training via our online Training Hub. Over 40,000 online courses were completed last year by our people via our training platform!
For office-based roles
We are proud to partner with the Institute for Highways Engineers (IHE) and we encourage our management and leadership teams to progress in the qualifications offered to achieve nationally recognised qualifications and accredited training.
For central support teams
As specialists in their field, we actively foster our central support staff in developing within their field of expertise.
We support our people in securing professional qualifications and provide appropriate coaching and mentoring to make it happen. This is achieved through apprenticeships and supported professional training as well as paid-for professional subscriptions.
